U.S. cannot solve Iraq problem without Iran

Political analyst Sadegh Zibakalam noted on Wednesday that the problems the Unites States is facing in Iraq will not be resolved without the help of Iran.

Zibakalam was commenting on statements released Monday by U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack that U.S. Ambassador to Baghdad Zalmay Khalilzad had received explicit permission from U.S. President George W. Bush to hold talks with Tehran on the insurgency in Iraq.

What 'staying the course' really means by Robert Dreyfuss

The Bush administration has put into operation an utterly paradoxical and self-defeating strategy. First, its policies inflame the region, feeding the growth of political Islam and its extremist as well as terrorist offshoots. Then, as in Iraq - and as seems to be the case in Syria and Egypt - it seeks "regime change" in countries where it knows that the chief opposition and likely inheritor of power will be the Muslim Brotherhood or its ilk. This is a formula for endless war in the region.

US Report Calls on Israel to Begin Nuclear Disarmament by Barbara Ferguson

In order to contain Iran’s nuclear development and prevent a nuclear arms race in the region, Israel must begin nuclear disarmament.

This, according to a recent report, entitled “Getting Ready for a Nuclear— Ready Iran,” [www.strategicstudiesinstitute.army.mil/ pdffiles/PUB629.pdf] published by the US Army War College, commissioned and partially funded by the Pentagon, argues that Iran’s nuclear weapon development cannot be stopped by any current military or diplomatic options.

French deputy must defend Holocaust comments

After four times delaying a vote on Bruno Gollnisch, number two in France's extreme right National Front, the parliament's legal affairs committee voted overwhelmingly not to give him protection as a member of the European parliament (MEP) from court proceedings.

Gollnisch was charged over his comments at a press conference last year which trod a fine line on the edge of French laws against calling into question crimes against humanity.

Let's talk about Iraq by Jim Lobe

In a move that marks a major change in policy, Washington's influential ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, has disclosed that President George W Bush has authorized him to open direct talks with Iran about stabilizing Iraq.

The announcement came in an interview with Newsweek magazine. The two countries have not held direct talks since mid-May 2003, shortly after the US ouster of Saddam Hussein.

Worse than the Riots Themselves? by Jared Taylor

One immense difficulty France will have in coming to grips with the November riots is that whenever someone comes close to telling the truth about them he is likely to be sued for incitement to racial hatred. Anyone can bring such a suit, and what happened to Alain Finkielkraut—France’s most prominent philosopher—is a chilling example of what can now happen not only in France but in many European countries.

The Iraq War All About Israel

Most individual Muslims despise Israel, but Israel controls their leaders. The possibility of a strong and focused leader emerging, that could unite the Muslims, throw out the puppets in Jordan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, and take back their oil wealth, petrifies world Zionism.

A true leader, with control of the world's oil, could crush Bush, and Blair, in an instant. With an ounce of cunning, and intelligence, they could focus the world's eyes on Israel as the ultimate pariah.

Buy a movie studio, a cable channel, and an internet news system. Expose Israel's false flags, and even set up a few of their own.

National Suicide by James P. Pinkerton

We were warned. Three decades ago, Jean Raspail published a novel, The Camp of the Saints, which served as a worst-case-scenario warning about the consequences of unchecked immigration into his native France and, by extension, into all of Europe. Raspail’s book was a big seller in his home country, but his message was not heeded. Now, of course, he is being vindicated.

The Truth about Islamic Crusades and Imperialism by James Arlandson

It is only natural that the Quran would be filled with references to jihad and qital, the latter word meaning only fighting, killing, warring, and slaughtering. Textual reality matches historical reality in the time of Muhammad. And after.

But this means that the Church had to fight back or be swallowed up by an aggressive religion over the centuries. Thus, the Church did not go out and conquer in a mindless, bloodthirsty, and irrational way—though the Christian Crusades were far from perfect.

Islam was the aggressor in its own Crusades, long before the Europeans responded with their own.

Reflections on the Upcoming Irving, Zundel and Rudolf Trials by Paul Grubach

Undoubtedly, many of those in the pro-Zionist camp will reject freedom of speech in regard to the Holocaust issue, and argue for strict censure of Holocaust revisionist viewpoints, a la Funke. This is not surprising. The censorship of Holocaust revisionism in Germany serves the sociopolitical interests of political Zionism and the non-Jewish elites that are allied with them, so as to maintain the current sociopolitical status quo. Let us see how this is so.

Prime minister plans to draw 'the final shape of Israel' by Harry de Quetteville

Sixty years after the state of Israel was created, Ariel Sharon is effectively drawing its final borders, say his advisers, diplomats, friends … and the cartographers.

They believe that Mr Sharon, who as a general played a leading role in the expansion of Israel's borders in successive wars since 1948, is now - as a politician - determined to set the country's hitherto elastic frontiers in stone.

Former Canadian Minister Of Defence Fears Intergalactic ET War

Comment: There is some evidence to suggest a manufactured alien threat would be used to unify the world behind a global government initiative. See a summary of that evidence in Order Out of Chaos.

A former Canadian Minister of Defence and Deputy Prime Minister under Pierre Trudeau has joined forces with three Non-governmental organizations to ask the Parliament of Canada to hold public hearings on Exopolitics -- relations with “ETs.”

Secret British document accuses Israel by Chris McGreal

A confidential Foreign Office document accuses Israel of rushing to annex the Arab area of Jerusalem, using illegal Jewish settlement construction and the vast West Bank barrier, in a move to prevent it becoming a Palestinian capital.

Will the US Seize the Opportunity for Troop Withdrawal? by Ray McGorvern

The surprising degree of consensus reached by the main Iraqi factions at the Arab-League orchestrated Reconciliation Conference in Cairo last weekend sharply undercuts the unilateral, guns-and-puppets approach of the Bush administration to the deteriorating situation in Iraq. The common demand, by Shia and Kurds as well as Sunnis, for a timetable for withdrawal of occupation forces demolishes the administration's argument that setting such a timetable would be a huge mistake. Who would know better-the Iraqis or the ideologues advising Bush?

The Ariel Route by BRET STEPHENS

The Likud Party is Ariel Sharon's baby, conceived in the seat of his tractor and initially financed with the sale of two tons of hay from his Negev ranch. In the summer of 1973, Mr. Sharon decided to bring Israel's half-dozen opposition parties together into a single bloc that could credibly challenge the then-dominant Labor Party. The parties ranged from nationalists to free-marketers to left-wing splinter groups. In elections that winter, Likud--the word means "unity" --scored an impressive 39 seats in Parliament, setting the stage for its rise to power four years later under the leadership of Menachem Begin. It has been in power for 20 of the past 28 years.

Bush Collapse May Leave Vacuum For More Competent Dictator by Chris Floyd

Thus, even if the Bush Regime collapses entirely, we will still face an uphill battle against "Bushism" and all the long-term currents it represents. We must also guard against something even worse rising in its place. For the Bush years have shown how fragile American democracy is, how relatively little it takes for a predatory faction to seize the state and manipulate the public, cow the opposition, intimidate the press and use violence in pursuit of loot and power. The template is there now, and it's entirely conceivable, perhaps inevitable, that some new would-be dictator -- more competent, more subtle, more adroit than the ludicrous klutz from Crawford -- will use it to create a more efficient and durable instrument of domination.

Moscow to close foreign groups by Michael Mainville

Supporters say the bill is designed to prevent foreign interests from interfering in Russian society. Mr. Putin and other officials have accused internationally funded NGOs of being a "fifth column" that seeks to destabilize Russia by creating an opposition movement like those that started Ukraine's Orange Revolution and Georgia's Rose Revolution.

"The purpose of this foreign funding is to undermine the Russian state and attempt to produce another Orange Revolution in the post-Soviet space," said Alexei Ostrovsky, a parliamentarian with the Liberal Democratic Party and one of the bill's sponsors.

Iraq: Why no outrage? by Linda Heard

The question I will leave you to mull over is this. Saddam Hussein is an undisputed baddie, who irreparably damaged his own country and his neighbors, but are we the ostensible do-gooders, the sophisticates, the enlightened, the promoters of our democratic way of life actually much better? I, for one, am not only thoroughly ashamed but also downright angry. Why aren’t you?

U.S., China in sync on ROC

Bush's Asia tour is widely seen as part of a campaign to rejuvenate U.S. leadership for a new world order. In addition to engage China, Washington is also expected to forge a partnership with Russia, accept India's nuclear status, welcome a more assertive Japan, and encourage a more capable and active Europe. All are firm believers in the one-China principle. Taiwan will be further sidelined.

The U.S. and China appear in sync on how to handle Taiwan, the island should think hard about its place in this new world order.

The next drama in the Land of Milk and Honey by Louis Farshee

If Peretz became Prime Minister of Israel, George W. Bush would be in serious trouble. Since 9-11, Sharon has used the so-called War on Terror to expand Zionist colonization and land seizures in the Occupied Territories and thwart the creation of a Palestinian State. He has made stirring the pot with Syria and Iran a favorite pastime, while Peretz has said little if anything about Iran, wants to settle with the Palestinians, possibly address Israel’s confrontation with Syria over Israel’s occupation of the Golan Heights and try to resolve or lessen Israel’s domestic problems.

How the Bush administration got spooked by Tom Engelhardt

It's finally Wizard of Oz time in America. You know - that moment when the curtains are pulled back, the fearsome-looking wizard wreathed in all that billowing smoke turns out to be some pitiful little guy, and everybody looks around sheepishly, wondering why they acted as they did for so long.

The Global Elite: Who are they? - Part 1 by Patrick Wood

Every bit of thirty-five years of research indicates that there is a relatively small yet diverse group of global players who have been the planners and instigators behind globalization for many decades. The primary driving force that moves this "clique" is greed; the secondary force is the lust for power. In the case of the academics who are key to globalism, a third force is professional recognition and acceptance (a subtle form of egoism and power.)

Bush in East Asia: 'Freedom is an Asian value' by John J. Metzler

In his clear clarion call for wider Asian democracy in this new century, President Bush stated, “In the 21st century, freedom is an Asian value — because it is a universal value. It is freedom that enables the citizens of Asia to live lives of dignity. It is freedom that has unleashed the creative talents of the Asian people. And in the work that lies ahead, the people of this region can know: You have a partner in the American government — and a friend in the American people.”

Is it impolite to suggest that such freedoms are too much to ask for the people of Mainland China?

CIA and FBI Plan to Assassinate Hugo Chavez by Kurt Nimmo

Hugo Chávez is now between the assassination point of this neolib plan and invasion, when “our young men and women” will be “sent in to die and kill” Venezuelan peasants the same way they are now killing poor Iraqis. Of course, it remains to be seen if Bush can actually invade Venezuela—the neocon roster is teeming with targets, from Syria to Iran—and so we can expect the Bushcons and their jackals to continue efforts to assassinate Chávez, as Giovani Jose Vasquez De Armas reveals the CIA and the FBI are attempting to do, with little success.

Can a Nuclear Strike on Iran Be Prevented? by Jorge Hirsch

Today, a public debate can occur. The scenarios described in the Pentagon document [.pdf] in which the U.S. would use nuclear weapons include "for rapid and favorable war termination on U.S. terms," against "an adversary intending to use WMD against U.S., multinational, or alliance forces," and "to demonstrate U.S. intent and capability to use nuclear weapons." These are not acceptable scenarios. It is not in the best interests of the United States nor the rest of the world for the U.S. to base its military planning on such policies, because if it does so a situation will inevitably arise in which no alternative will be left, as in the case considered here. There has to be a public discussion in the media, online, and in Congress. Unless there is an extraordinary outcry of opposition against such policies, they are bound to be implemented in the very near future.

The EU Constitution Lives! by James Lewis

Only political suckers really believed that the European Union would listen to the voters after they decisively voted against its bizarre draft Constitution last May. The EU is a piece of bureaucratic imperialism that has built up an unstoppable head of steam over thirty years. It has never bothered with democratic procedures. After the No vote, not a thing really changed. In fact, the voters’ disapproval of the Constitution just freed up the bureaucrats to do what they wanted to anyway. This is all part of the very bizarre Disney World of Europolitics.

Why the Sudden Clampdown on Revisionists? by Rixon Stewart

Moreover, the Internet illustrates that the accused are not “Holocaust Deniers” – in the sense that they deny the Holocaust ever took place – or “right wing extremists” intent on resurrecting the Third Reich. That’s what the mainstream media would us believe but almost without exception, the accused admit that the Nazis were guilty of gross human rights abuses. What’s at issue here are the numbers of dead, how they died and whether there was any clear plan of genocide at all.

Brave New Warworld by Sheila Samples

The New Worlders – Cheney, Michael Ledeen who, ironically, sits in the "Freedom" chair at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI); William Kristol, idiot "intellectual" editor of the rabid right-wing Weekly Standard; Paul Wolfowitz, author of the Iraq war who now heads the World Bank; and Lewis Libby, recently indicted in the Valerie Plame CIA Leak investigation, among others, built their "grand vision" on a revolutionary 24-page document, "Defense Strategy for the 1990s: The Regional Defense Strategy," penned by Cheney in January 1993, which outlined a new foreign policy of pre-emption in order to gain – and maintain – US global dominance.

King has more friends in West than at home by Robert Fisk

Well, partly because King Abdullah is so loyal a servant of President George Bush. Partly because his forces are training Iraqi soldiers. Partly because he is allowing US special forces to train those soldiers on his soil. Partly because Jordan has also become a rear echelon air base for US fighter-bombers, which are attacking cities in Iraq. And partly because Jordan, with its unconstitutional monarchy and its growing slums of Islamists in its largest cities, is the soft underbelly of "the West" in the Middle East. Since the death of his father, Jordanians and other Arabs have been asking whether the King can justify his existence in what was once called Transjordan.

A Year After Arafat by Yasser Abed Rabbo

Has anyone thought of the consequences if the current Palestinian leadership is weakened and replaced by forces of fundamentalism and extremism? One doesn't need to be a genius to understand that continued sieges of Palestinian cities, further assassinations, construction of additional kilometers of the separation wall and the wall-to-wall collective punishment Israel is using against the Palestinian people can never create any atmosphere conducive for a resumption of genuine peace talks.

"Prevent the UN From Pirating the Internet" by Steven J. DuBord

You will see among them such ships of state as Russia, China, Cuba, Iran, Sudan, and Zimbabwe, hardly paragons of liberty and human rights. All of them are waving their cutlasses in outrage that the United States is refusing (for now) to relinquish its supervisory role over the private-sector, not-for-profit Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). Even the European Union has revealed its true colors and fired a broadside of protest against supposed U.S. dominance of the Internet. The captain of this bunch of scurvy knaves is none other than the UN secretary-general himself, Kofi “Oil-for-food” Annan (who apparently wears his eye patch over the eye that he is supposed to use to watch over his corrupt underlings).

A Practice That 'Prevents the Emergence of a Palestinian State' by Michael Jansen

Eldar said that Rabin did not speak of a “Palestinian state”, but rather of a “Palestinian entity that would be less than a full-fledged state”. He insisted on a “united Jerusalem” which would take in Ma'aleh Adumim and Givat Ze'ev, two Israeli urban colonies extending deep into the West Bank. Israel would also have annexed the Etzion Bloc, Efrat, Betar and other settlements straddling the Green Line, while all other settlements would have remained in situ, some under Palestinian sovereignty.

US on sidelines as Latin American voters prepare to redraw continent by Dan Glaister

There was a telling moment during the Mar del Plata summit of the Americas in Argentina earlier this month. As the 34 leaders walked to the seaside spot chosen for their group photograph, they chatted and joked among themselves. But while they strolled in groups, one leader walked alone: the US president.

George Bush's isolation was more than symbolic. It was borne out by the failure of the summit to rubberstamp the US-backed creation of a south American trade zone. Both President Bush's isolation and the failure of the latest US-inspired trade plan for the continent highlight a question preoccupying US policy-makers and Latin American leaders: is the region drifting away from the influence of its northern neighbour?

Did Israel have Prior Knowledge of the Amman 11/9 Terror Attacks? by Michel Chossudovsky

According to an Israeli radio report, the attacks have open the way towards the signing of a joint intelligence agreement between Israel and Jordan.

Despite being the supposed targets of the attacks, Westerners escaped their brunt, as most of the casualties were Jordanian. Jordanian Embassy officials said none of its government officials were wounded or killed.

Other government officials were less fortunate, including Maj. Gen. The two were on their way back from Cairo, Egypt, he said.

On all of the above points, moderate Muslims are called upon to raise their voices. Moderate Muslims must be loud and vociferous against blind strategies, and instead should call for a real and intensive discussion about the Jewish question and about Israel's position in the Middle East. Without such deep and fruitful discussion, the Israeli/Palestinian conflict will not be completely solved.

IMPERIAL DEMOCRACY: There remains the question as to the manner in which the US will avail itself of the "spread of democracy" as a means to contain the Arab and Islamic world, and Syria in particular. Certainly, many here would agree that democracy is not a gift which is in Bush's power to force down our throats, ostensibly to free us of decades of despotism and equip us for a new phase of political, economic and social development.

America's new enemy by John Pilger

While the world looks to Iran and Syria for the next Bush attack, Venezuelans know they may well be next. On 17 March, the Washington Post reported that Feliz RodrIguez, "a former CIA operative well connected to the Bush family", had taken part in the planning of the assassination of the president of Venezuela. On 16 September, Chavez said, "I have evidence that there are plans to invade Venezuela. Furthermore, we have documentation: how many bombers will over-fly Venezuela on the day of the invasion . . . the US is carrying out manoeuvres on Curacao Island. It is called Operation Balboa." Since then, leaked internal Pentagon documents have identified Venezuela as a "post-Iraq threat" requiring "full spectrum" planning.

The US formula for China by Larry Wortzel and Devin T Stewart

The current Chinese emphasis on a "peaceful rise" does not satisfy those who are concerned about its military growth. Instead, those concerned about China's future look to its incursions into Japan's territorial waters, its extensive territorial claims in the South China Sea and its rapid military expansion. These moves are at odds with a peaceful rise. They raise legitimate scrutiny of China's motives.

Democracy with Chinese characteristics by Francesco Sisci

The white paper on democracy, released in October, mentions that political reforms will draw inspiration from Marxist tradition. This seems to indicate the tradition of the Italian Communist Party, which upheld democracy in Italy in the 1970s, even against the threat of the communist Red Brigades; or that of the Marxists from the anti-Stalinist school of Frankfurt, which stirred the European students' movement of the 1960s.

Four arrests linked to Chinese spy ring by Bill Gertz

Four persons arrested in Los Angeles are part of a Chinese intelligence-gathering ring, federal investigators said, and the suspects caused serious compromises for 15 years to major U.S. weapons systems, including submarines and warships.

U.S. intelligence and security officials said the case remains under investigation but that it could prove to be among the most damaging spy cases since the 1985 one of John A. Walker Jr., who passed Navy communication codes to Moscow for 22 years.

Smoking gun or smokescreen? by Serene Assir

As to the timing of the report, some believe that a smokescreen is being established to shield not only the Security Council, which was allegedly complicit with the oil-for-food scandal, but the US government, mired in its own domestic and international problems. "I sense Annan was pushed by Washington to have Volcker do public, media-conspicuous, work in order to divert attention from the mess in the US capital with regard to the criminal invasion and occupation of Iraq. Meantime, several Congressional committees are working on studies of US scandals linked to the UN oil-for-food programme -- I have met two committees myself," Halliday told the Weekly.

CIA's 'black sites' breed more evil by Ehsan Ahrari

The greatest threat to the United States does not come from the "first tier" detainees of those black dungeons or even from Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, often described as an Osama bin Laden associate. Rather, it is the young generation that is coming up, armed with half-baked notions of what jihad is.

The Plan is for the United States to rule the world by David Armstrong

The overt theme is unilateralism, but it is ultimately a story of domination. It calls for the United States to maintain its overwhelming military superiority and prevent new rivals from rising up to challenge it on the world stage. It calls for dominion over friends and enemies alike. It says not that the United States must be more powerful, or most powerful, but that it must be absolutely powerful.

The real question in this dubious undertaking is which GMO (genetically modified organisms) giants are underwriting the research and development of GMO chickens and who will control their products. It is increasingly clear that the entire saga of avian flu is one whose dimensions are only slowly coming to light. What we can see so far is not at all pretty.

Paris Riots Becoming New National Sport?

With the 2006 French Presidential elections around the corner, seven nights of non-stop rioting in non-White areas of Paris have the French elite in a frenzy. White nationalist Jean-Marie LePen smashed the Socialist Party (equivalent to the US Democrats) hopeful in the last round, leaving the patriotic Front National the second-leading party in the nation, hot on the heels of the ruling conservatives of Jacques Chirac. Now Nicolas Sarkozy, Chirac's Interior Minister and the man who hopes to carry the conservative standard against LePen in 2006, is looking like a total incompetent in the face of the non-stop violence. Both Sarkozy and Chirac have had to cancel overseas trips in attempts to cope with the living evidence of the unworkability of the multiracial experiment.

Entangling Alliances That You Can Never Escape From, Cont'd by Ali Hassan Massoud

America has no business meddling unilaterally with nations and societies outside North America with which it has no natural border. Europe , Japan , Korea , Israel , and all the rest of the hotspots where troops and bases are still maintained have long since become mature, industrialized, liberal democracies that are able to decide themselves what their best interests are and who are fully capable of defending their territory. Charity cases like Taiwan and Israel are simply none of America ’s business, period.

TOP TEN THINGS YOU NEVER KNEW ABOUT JACK ABRAMOFF

The MadCowMorningNews has learned that the same so-called "war cabal" being accused of selling a "bill of goods" to justify the war in Iraq also led earlier efforts to convince the American people of the necessity of going to war, in support of the Contras in the mid-1980's, and before the Gulf War under the first President Bush, and funded through the same methods and sources being investigated in the Abramoff scandals today.
